Social care sector unites to call for greater funding ahead of Autumn Statement

November 14, 2016

This past weekend, the Care and Support Alliance along with leading social care organisations joined together to urge the government to invest in social care system at the forthcoming Autumn statement.

The letter highlighted how the funding shortfall of £4.6bn since 2010, has left the system running on empty and has meant that older people, disabled people and their carers are not receiving the care and support they need.

It further outlined how social care underfunding continues to pile unnecessary pressure onto the NHS. With social care consistently accounts for 30% of delayed discharge, and last year meant that an estimated 650,000 bed days were lost.
